Ice fishing on East Greenland, 8 days (4074)

In the spectacular East Greenlandic wilderness will the dog sledges take us for a ride to the small village Kuummiut that will be our home for the coming days. Now 5 days of ice fishing are awaiting us and we will try to get wolf fish, Greenlandic shark, small halibut and redfish. The world record of both wolf fish and small halibut is taken in the area so hopefully we will catch some really big ones! We will be fishing on a depth of around 300-500 meters.

When we are not fishing we will be accommodated in comfortable cabins and we will have dinners at a local Greenlandic family.

When we catch a Greenlandic shark we work together with the Greenlandic Nature Institute and mark the shark and release it again.

Program
NB!
This is the planned program but it can be changed because of weather and ice conditions.

Day 1:
You will be picked up at Kulusuk airport when you arrive with the flight from Reykjavik. We change to warmer clothes and then pack our luggage on the dog sledges. We will drive with the dog sledges for about 4 hours til we reach the ice edge. Here a boat will pick us up and we load everything on the boats, including dogs and sledges. We will go by boat for about 1 hour until we reach the small village Kuummiut (or the ice edge close by). We move in to a house that will be our home for the coming nights. Later on the evening we will go to a local family and have dinner.

Day 2
In the morning we will meet up at the grocery. Here we will buy what we need for the coming days. We fill the refrigerators with breakfast, and food we can use as lunch package during the fishing trips during the days.

We take the boat until we reach the ice edge in the area we will be fishing in for the days. From here we walk to a good spot for the fishing. At around 17.00 we will go back to Kuummiut and have dinner at the local family.

Day 3 - 6
We will be fishing all days, normally between 9 - 17.

Day 7
Today we do not have any fishing, instead we will pack our things in the boat and go back to Kulusuk. The last part is again with the dog sledges. When we arrive to Kulusuk we will check in at Hotel Kulusuk where we will be staying the last night

Day 8
The flight will take us back to Reykjavik.
